On Saturday, I purchased the Go Macros, at Target, using my Target gift card and it's a great way to try out a plant based protein bar and roll your Target gift card into cash! It's a win-win!
Wifey and I have a strategy for Target shopping which we’ve used for quite awhile. We buy a Target card at the grocery store when 4X points are offered, which is often Ralph’s on a Friday or VONS on Saturday and Sunday.
Next, when we buy the Target GC we try to use a credit card that gives a bonus for grocery purchases. Currently DISCOVER gives a 5% bonus. So, a $50 Target card yields:
5% DISC CB = $2.50 AND 200 fuel or J4U points
Your credit card could offer a different benefit you enjoy, like airline miles or hotel points.
So the only time we actually just pay directly at Target is when Target itself is the bonus category on a credit card (or the Red Card). Otherwise it benefits you to take the extra step of buying the Target GC at the grocery store. Then load those funds immediately to your Target account so the money is safe.
