I have become a Whole Foods Shopper.... never thought I would say that. But here's why (not sure how many people know this)- every day Whole Foods sticks yellow stickers across all the refrigerated/prepared foods aisle on food that "must be enjoyed today" but that is never the case. I picked up half and half on Aug. 20 that had an expire of Sept. 11 for 50% off. I have picked up chicken, pork, ground beef all at 50% off with expiry anywhere from 2-5 days later but stick it in the freezer and pull it out when you are ready to eat it. I have gotten prepared foods all at 50% off and when I don't feel like cooking it's a really great price for everything from chicken fingers to huge family size salads. One Whole Foods by me starts stickering at 10am and the other at 11am. I highly recommend checking it out and asking them when they start stickering.
ReplyDeleteI do this sparingly in La Jolla but find prepared foods pricing still 4-5x more than cost of doing it yourself even after discount.
ReplyDeleteI picked up a pack of chicken breast (3 pack) last night that was already on sale and 50% off made it $2/lb. And then I picked up ground pork at $2.25/lb and chicken legs at $1.79/lb. Can't beat that.
ReplyDeleteI agree that some of the prepared foods are even too expensive at 50% off I picked up chicken fingers already cooked for $3 and a decent sized tub of macaroni salad for $1.19
