Readers, Growly and Trish, left comments that the 99 Cent Stores are liquidating starting today, Friday, April 5, 2024. I absolutely knew that the 99 Cent Stores were done because they had struggled, last year, to stay afloat and open.NOT 99 CENT ONLY!! MY CHILDHOOD IS GONE WHY?? IT SHOULD’VE BEEN THE GREEN STORE. 😭😭 pic.twitter.com/9FTEcqy2iP

Hold onto your money because we are in for a bumpy ride!
I am predicting right now that Dollar Tree / Dollar General stores are next on the chopping block.
ReplyDeleteThey have the same marketing strategy as the 99 Store
Let's hope not....I get Harry & David coffee (4 oz) at Dollar Tree and also the Philadelphia Water Ice, which is really good!
DeleteI received a e-mail with the details. It's here:

Went to 99 cents store. The lanes were long and a lot of the produce gone. I just walked out because it was not worth waiting in line.
ReplyDeleteI just visited the smaller of the three stores near me. The parking lot was full, and the checkout line was relatively long.
ReplyDeleteThere were no signs anywhere saying what discount everything was, but the food I got was only 10% off.
They will accept their giftcards till April 19th.

ReplyDeleteSorry, I see Growly said 10%. I'm assuming that will increase over the upcoming days.
DeleteI would assume so too, but with the lines I saw on day 1 of the liquidation, I wouldn't be surprised if some stores close early because there's nothing left.
DeleteYeah, went to my store in Brea yesterday (got one last Jerseymaid cottage cheese!). Funny how people are loading up their carts for 10% off....in the apparently 'old' days, people would wait about a week and then stock up for huge discounts (40-50%). Was surprised that Easter candy was only 25% off....all the major chains have it 50% off the next day.
DeleteIt doesn't surprise me the long lines for 10% off bc people honestly believe that they are saving money bc when you don't know any better a 10% savings is better than no savings.
