A little background history on the Thanksgiving dinner freebies in that it really started with coupons.com offering things like Buy canned green beans up to $0.89 back, Buy cranberry sauce up to $0.50 back, Buy Jiffy Cornbread mix up to $0.89, etc. and there wasn't this stampede of people rushing in to get the freebies because most people felt comfortable and secure in their daily lives and so, it was only the hard core savers and couponers that was grabbing the freebies. Keep in mind that Ralphs and Kroger stores used to have every Friday, a Freebie Friday, too, and you had up to two weeks to redeem the offer.
I want to say that it was 2019 or 2020 is when Ibotta started offering the FREE Thanksgiving dinner with the turkey, gravy, beans, stuffing, cranberry sauce and those offers were truly amazing. We all know that by November 2020, we were in a hurt locker as a nation due to the pandemic, we'd watch the news and they were reporting how many had the COVID and how many had died from the COVID, lockdowns, cars in long for COVID testings, cars in long lines to get food distribution...it was crazy. However, the FREE Walmart + Ibotta Thanksgiving was a welcomed distraction from all of the bad news that we was getting as a nation.
Last year, in 2021, things was looking because people was jumping on the COVID vaccination and the lockdown requirements was slowly being loosen and Walmart + Ibotta Thanksgiving decided that we need to jump through hooks for an abbreviated FREE Thanksgiving dinner by getting a referral to sign up for Ibotta to get a FREE turkey and the rest of the Thanksgiving fixings.
We are now in 2022, and I am wondering that since consumers are dealing with the high gasoline prices and high food inflation and it's being reported that Walmart is struggling with excess inventory and high costs...will there be a Thanksgiving Freebie, this year? What do you think?
