The suspension of SNAP Benefits have been blocked!

NEWS: The Trump admin's decision to suspend SNAP benefits due to the shutdown has been blocked. In two cases, both judges found the government action is likely illegal. Although a judge in Mass gave the admin until Monday to reverse course, a judge in Rhode Island issued a TRO from the bench today.

Happy Halloween!🎃

Thank goodness, the SNAP benefits have been turned back on! I did not want to walk around with people not having access to food trying rob me so they can eat. It's human nature, it's in our DNA for self survival and people will not lay down in the streets and starve themselves and their families. They will hit you over the head get all your money before they starve themselves. It was going to be pure chaos, if people didn't have access to food.

Now, people can enjoy Halloween festivities without having to worry that someone in a scary mask is trying to rob them.

Why do they keep messing with the apps?

Kroger has updated their app and I hate it because I have four Ralph stores - Hillcrest, Mission Valley, Point Loma and Montezuma and I am not even counting the store on G Street in downtown San Diego. I select which store to go to based on store inventory, time of day and traffic. For example, I don't go to Mission Valley at lunchtime nor between the hours of 2 pm - 7 pm because of heavy traffic.

Prior to the app update, I could quickly pivot based on my location in the city to the nearest Ralphs and update the app of my location. This is important because the store set-ups are not the same from store to store and I don't want to walk all the aisles looking for a particular product and before the app change, I could easily change store locations, thereby, I'd know exactly which aisle to grab whatever I need.

If it ain't broke, why fix it?

The grocery stores are expecting pandemonium on Friday

I went into Ralphs to pick up a couple of things and they had merged the personal care, cleaning products and laundry care items into a single like the one pictured above and blocked off the back end and put a door on the front end with a full time cashier stationed there.

I walked into the area to see what all they had in there and the screens like the ones in the picture would beep every time I touched anything alerting the cashier that I had touched something.

Anyways, the cashier told me that the grocery stores are expecting pure pandemonium starting on Friday when SNAP Card users go to use their card for their November benefits. The lady told that the employees are scared including her.

She said that it's human nature for people not to let their kids starve to death and they are expecting for the to be shoplifting rampant.

The lady was livid that the feds are building a $500 million gold ballroom but won't feed people and they are putting employee lives on the line.

Let's keep our fingers crossed that they will turn on the spigot so that people can eat.

Another thing that she reminded of the fact that all grocery stores or any entity that sells food will loose money regardless if no one shoplifts because the grocery stores depend on the people using their SNAP benefits, it's built into their ecosystem. The stores estimates how much food to order and how many employees to have per store, if the SNAP benefits are turn off for a significant amount of time, they will cut store hour and employees and so it ends up being a double edged sword. I hadn't thought of it from that angle.

I have been saying grab free non-perishable foods for your local food pantry because I could see the lines for the free food distribution was growing each week. Now, more than ever with the SNAP benefits being shut down basically on Friday, we have to be our brother's keeper.

In San Diego, I give the non-perishable foods Bridge of Hope Food Bank and you can google it to get their location and days/hours of operation.
