Everything is negotiable!

If the airlines are needing to people to get off the plane, you got to say "How much?" and "What's the comp?" If you are in waiting area, they will usually have you come up to the airline little desk, in the waiting room and tell you. If they cannot get you booked on another flight within a couple of hours, they'll always book you a hotel, you'll get food vouchers, toiletries, transportation to the hotel and back, etc. I say know your worth because they are going try to low-ball you and say $1,000...that's no money and you've got to come back and say "The last time I flew American Airlines, they offered me $2,500." and you leave it there. They will still reverse the charges for your original flight off of your credit card and fly you to your destination for free and give you the $2,500 AND...put you up at the hotel, etc. Most of the time when they get on the microphone and they say "We are looking for people to take a later flight." You've got to run up to the little desk and talk to them about your compensation.

Everything is negotiable!

When the airlines overbook a flight but everyone shows up for the flight, the airlines start panicking because they'd rather get folks to voluntarily get off that flight so that the Air Marshall can be on that flight, so that the congressman's wife and kids can be on that flight, so that the marine can home after basic training, the airlines do a lot behind scenes. Everybody moans and groans about the airlines but they keep our nation going.  This is why professional sports teams, CEO's and entertainers have their own planes they don't want to wait while the airlines are saving the world!
